The Parking Lot Thing, 2021    The Parking Lot Thing is a photographic series depicting empty parking lots at night in my hometown. Growing up in the suburbs, it seemed impossible to find something to do, especially at night. This led to a lot of time spent with friends in parking lots. Whether it be lots at parks we’d grown up playing at or some lot with no marked purpose-- any place would suffice. There, we would talk about nothing for hours or, quite frankly, just fuck around until we got bored again and dispersed back to our parents’ houses.
This work shows suburban boredom and the loneliness of growing up. Headlights illuminate these scenes, reflecting these stranded transitional spaces of my youth. The sentimentality of the spaces was fleshed out and the scenes are shown for what they are now that we all left-- empty lots.
